Once operational, this new mega-airport will begin to take over all flight operations from the current Dubai International Airport (DXB), according to a new update shared during The Airport Show.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made by Khalifa Al Zaffin, Executive Chairman of Dubai Aviation City Corporation, who confirmed that <strong>construction plans are on track, with contractors already engaged<\/strong>. A key development in the rollout includes the awarding of a AED 1 billion contract for the construction of a second runway, a step towards boosting the airport\u2019s long-term capacity and efficiency.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-32445\" src=\"https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/n11-1024x512.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"512\" srcset=\"https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/n11-1024x512.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/n11-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/n11-768x384.jpg 768w, https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/n11-1536x768.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/n11-2048x1024.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/04\/n11-150x75.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once Phase 1 is ready, <strong>Al Maktoum International will be able to handle up to 150 million passengers per year<\/strong>, making it one of the largest and most advanced airport facilities in the world.But there\u2019s more to come.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of April, authorities also revealed that <strong>by 2050, the airport will feature an <a href=\"https:\/\/platinumlist.ceo\/guide\/al-maktoum-airport-to-feature-underground-train-network-by-2050\/\">underground train system<\/a><\/strong> to improve passenger movement across the vast site \u2014 a move that reflects Dubai\u2019s ambitions to make DWC the most futuristic airport ever built.<\/p>\n<p>The project is part of Dubai\u2019s wider strategy to reshape global air travel and expand the city\u2019s long-term aviation infrastructure.
