On the first day of Ramadan, Abu Dhabi opened Masdar City Mosque, a project that blends tradition with modernity. It’s the UAE’s first net-zero energy mosque, which produces as much electricity as it consumes annually.
Inspired by the traditional Al Bidyah Mosque, the mosque retains classic elements of Emirati design while incorporating sustainable technology. The roof and parking shades are covered with over 1,000 sqm of solar panels, providing all the power the mosque needs.

Inside, there’s a 42-metre-wide, column-free prayer hall that offers an open space for worship and can accommodate up to 1,300 people. A rammed earth Qibla wall helps naturally regulate the temperature. Another striking feature of Masdar City Mosque is the 20-metre-high minaret.
Masdar City Mosque serves as a symbol of innovation and heritage. It’s a must-see destination for anyone visiting the city and a true gift for worshippers for this Ramadan. If you’re spending the holy month in Abu Dhabi, be sure to check out all Ramadan events, Iftar tents, and attractions.
