If you rely on public transport in Dubai (or you’re just tired of traffic) this is the kind of update that makes your day a little better. Another way of moving around the city is on the way, and it feels like something straight out of a sci-fi film.

RTA has announced plans to introduce trackless tram system across eight areas. Unlike conventional trams, it doesn’t run on rails. Instead, it follows virtual road markings using smart guidance technology. You can read more about this project here.

At the same time, dedicated bus and taxi lanes are being expanded with six new corridors covering 13 km.

You’ll notice the difference when your usual commute starts taking less time. Here are the expected results in numbers:

  • bus journey times could drop by 41%
  • on-time performance may improve by 42%
  • passenger number is projected to increase by 10%

In 2025 alone, 802 million journeys were recorded across metro, buses, taxis, marine transport, and shared mobility services. That’s a 7.4% increase compared to the previous year.

Public transport demand is rising, and the infrastructure is growing with it. You already know that flying taxis are scheduled to launch in 2026. Other projects such as Glydways, Dubai Loop by Elon Musk, and self-driving pods are all part of the longer-term vision.
